In August 2009 we took in approximately 55 elderly persons who were displaced and separated from their loved ones after the civil war. They joined us directly from the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and were in urgent need of care and medical attention.
We provided food, shelter, care and medical attention. Some lucky individuals have since been re-united with their loved ones, but those that haven’t shall continue to receive our care and support for as long as they need it.
Many of our more elderly residents are still full of life. Lakshmi pictured here enjoyed singing and dancing and would often dance with the staff. She lived to the age of 102 years old and was active almost until the end.
